Lend Lease Breakers squad members Hannah Trollip, Nicola Carey and Katie Mack are just a few of the players to watch in the NSW U/18 Female team that will compete at the National Championships in January next year.

NSW are the defending champions in this competition after going through last summer’s tournament undefeated.

Selectors have named another powerful squad. Seven players, Trollip, Raack, Carey, Mack, Stalenberg, James and Newman, are returning for their second U/18 Championship, while all 13 members of the squad have played First Grade in the Sydney Women’s Grade competition. Mary Molloy also represented NSW at the U/15 National Championships last summer.

The full squad is (clubs/regions in brackets):

Hannah Trollip (Captain – Gordon)
Emma Newman (Vice-Captain – Bankstown Sports)
Lily Bardsley (Northern District/Central Coast)
Rebecca Cady (Sydney/Western)
Nicola Carey (St George-Sutherland)
Mathilda Carmichael (Gordon)
Stefanie Daffara (Campbelltown-Camden/Illawarra-Southern)
Nerida Gregory (Bankstown Sports)
Ashley James (Northern District/Central Coast)
Katie Mack (Northern District)
Mary Molloy (St George-Sutherland)
Celeste Raack (Campbelltown-Camden)
Naomi Stalenberg (Campbelltown-Camden)

Coach: Hamish Solomons

Cricket NSW Female Youth Programs Manager, Lisa Sthalekar, said experience was the key to the team’s success this season.

“A lot of these girls are no strangers to National Championships. Players like Hannah Trollip, Nicola Carey and Mathilda Carmichael have been representing NSW in Youth competitions since the U/15s and know what to expect from the tournament,” said Sthalekar.

“This is a very strong side. Nicola Carey has played the first two rounds of the Women’s National Cricket League and WT20 competitions for the Lend Lease Breakers while Hannh Trollip and Katie Mack are also part of the squad this year. Celeste Raack is also the leading wicket taker in the First Grade 50 over competition so there is plenty of firepower there.”

The U/18 Female National Championships will be played at Ballarat in Victoria from January 18-24, 2012. The competition will consist of Twenty20 and 50 over matches.
