The National Selection Panel (NSP) has named five NSW players a final 15-player Australian squad for the ICC Men’s Champions Trophy.
Steve Smith has been named skipper of the side that also includes bowling allrounders Sean Abbott and Ben Dwarshuis, along with leg spinning duo Tanveer Sangha and Adam Zampa.
NSW veteran pace trio Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and Mitchell Starc were all unavailable for selection.
While Smith and Zampa have enjoyed storied careers at the top level in ODI cricket, the selections of Abbott, Dwarshuis and Sangha are just reward for effort and potential for NSW and their BBL clubs.
Abbott has been capped 26 times in ODIs, including one match during Australia's victorious 2023 World Cup campaign in India.
Dwarshuis' only previous ODI for Australia came against England at Trent Bridge during last year's white-ball tour of the UK, when he was called up as a late replacement and injured on debut.
Sangha has been included in the 15-player squad after spending time in Sri Lanka earlier this month with the Test touring party as a development player. He was a travelling reserve with the Australian squad for the 2023 World Cup.
