Newcastle to host Central Coast in McDonald’s Country Championships Final

Newcastle will be out to achieve a fifth consecutive men’s McDonald’s Country Championships title when they host Central Coast in the final at Number 1 Oval, Newcastle, this Sunday.

The two sides clashed in last year’s trophy deciding fixture, which resulted in Newcastle successfully defending their crown in a thrilling last over win, despite the Coast’s Callum Rainger striking a brilliant century that saw him earn the Mark Curry Medal for Player of the Final.

The esteemed regional representative competition serves as the last chance for players to earn selection into the Bush Blues squad, with the National Country Cricket Championships scheduled for early January, also to be held in Newcastle.

Newcastle captain, Nick Foster, is looking forward to a thrilling encounter between two in-form squads.

“This will be a high-quality game with opportunities for players to shine and state their case for [Bush Blues] selection,” Foster said.

Chair of Country Cricket, Paul Marjoribanks, said:

“Last year’s final was a classic, one of the best games of Country Cricket in the last 10 years. With the superb conditions that will be provided by Newcastle City Council at Number 1 Oval, there is no reason why this game won’t be just as good.

“I trust there will be many strong performances, as these players proudly represent their Zones at the highest level of Country Cricket.

“It also important to acknowledge McDonald’s for their support of Country Cricket, without which we would not be able to provide these wonderful competitions.”

The final will be live-streamed, with the link to be provided on the Country Cricket Facebook page on the day of the match: HERE
