State’s emerging stars set for AW Green Shield start

The 2023-24 AW Green Shield competition begins this Sunday, December 17, with over 300 aspiring U16 cricketers ready to go head-to-head in the highly regarded six-week competition.

Teams from all 20 NSW Premier Cricket clubs kick-start their championship campaigns this weekend, with the tournament to feature seven preliminary rounds before the top eight placed sides qualify for an elimination finals series.

Cricket NSW Premier Cricket Manager, Roy Formica, said:

“We’re anticipating another fiercely contested AW Green Shield competition.

“With the stars of today and tomorrow having played in the tournament, such as Steve Smith, Pat Cummins, Ollie Davies and Sam Konstas, it’s proven to be one of the country’s leading youth representative competitions.

“We wish all players, coaches, officials and volunteers the best for this weekend’s start and the remainder of the AW Green Shield.”

Defending champions, Parramatta, take on Gordon at Chatswood Oval whilst last season’s runners-up, Hawkesbury, meet Sydney at Birchgrove Oval in their opening fixture.
