NSW names teams for National Indigenous Cricket Championships

Cricket NSW has named the NSW men’s and women’s squads set to play at the National Indigenous Cricket Championships (NICC) from April 2 -7, 2025 at the Great Barrier Reef Arena and Harrup Park in Mackay, Queensland.

Like last year, the men’s squad will be captained by Dunghutti man Brendan Smith, while longstanding captain, Wiradjuri woman Julie Muir, will lead the women’s team.

In the championships’ eighth edition, the NSW men’s team will look to reclaim the trophy after their loss to Western Australia last year, which prevented them from winning a fifth straight title. The women’s side, meanwhile, are the reigning champions and will look to continue their dominance that they have essayed throughout the history of the championships.

The tournament forms part of Australian cricket’s elite development pathway, with the aim of having more Indigenous cricketers represent Australia at the highest level.

A total of 11 teams will be in action in the T20 tournament that will have seven men's sides and four women's sides vying for the national titles.

The fixtures and scores for the tournament can be accessed on the PlayCricket app.

The Finals will be broadcast live on NITV and SBS On Demand on April 7.

This is the third season that the two teams have been supported by the CNSW Foundation to be able to compete at the championships.
