Test great Nathan Lyon is one of three additions to the NSW Men’s Team squad to take on Victoria in the Marsh Sheffield Shield fixture that begins at the MCG on Thursday.
Lyon joins Blues squad for Shield clash
The teams will play for the Hodge-Matthews trophy, a perpetual trophy on the line each time the two old foes play in a Sheffield Shield fixture. Named in honour of cricketers Brad Hodge (Victoria) and Greg Matthews (NSW), the establishment of this trophy is to celebrate and recognise the historical significance of the Victoria-New South Wales cricket rivalry.
Lyon is joined in the 13-player Blues squad announced today, along with left-arm quick Ben Dwarshuis and batter Blake Macdonald. Ross Pawson and Kurtis Patterson drop out of the 12 that were named for last week’s team that played South Australia.
Lyon and Dwarshuis come into the squad having already returned from injury in the Blues’ Marsh One-Day Cup win of South Australia last Friday, while Macdonald has earnt his berth following a ton of runs in Sydney Premier Cricket.
