Blues bag Shield win in Perth

The NSW Blues have defeated Western Australia by four wickets in their Marsh Sheffield Shield match at the WACA Ground in Perth.

The fixture would begin in slow fashion for the Blues, but when Jackson Bird broke a 107-run WA opening partnership, consistent wickets fell. Bird (3-37) grabbed three, Jack Edwards (2-53) took two and Chris Green (3-33) wrapped up the tail to limit WA to a 256-run first innings total.

Skipper, Moises Henriques (95) rescued an otherwise shaky NSW first innings, finishing painstakingly shy of a terrific Shield century, but propelling the Blues to within five runs of WA at the close of the first half of the fixture.

Green would break the game wide open, taking second-innings figures of 6-83. Green's controlled spell meant NSW were left chasing 182 runs for victory with over a day’s play remaining.

Blake Nikitaras (56) and Daniel Hughes (59) positioned the Blues nicely leading into day four, and Oliver Davies (24 not out) and Green (16 not out) steered NSW to victory. Green dispatching the winning runs with consecutive sixes.

Chris Green was named Player of the Match after taking 3-33 and 6-83, and scoring 19 and 16 (not out).
