NSW Women’s Team selectors have named a 13-player squad for their opening two Women’s National Cricket League matches against Queensland at Allan Border Field in Brisbane on September 27 and 29.
Breakers squad for opening WNCL fixtures
English international Georgia Adams will skipper the side that includes potential debutants Sam Bates and Elsa Hunter, alongside Australian capped players Erin Burns, Sarah Coyte, Lauren Cheatle and Hannah Darlington.
Bates, the Newcastle born and raised left arm Sydney Thunder tweaker has played WNCL for ACT, Tasmania and Victoria and at 32 is in line to add a NSW cap to that collection.
Top order batter Hunter is at the other end of the career spectrum, although at just 19 she has been playing internationally for Malaysia since making her T20I debut as a 13-year-old in 2019.
Alyssa Healy, Ashleigh Gardner and Phoebe Litchfield are unavailable as they prepare for the ICC Women’s T20 World Cup that begins in the UAE next month, while Jade Allen and rookies Lauren Kua and Kate Pelle were not considered due to injury.
Cricket NSW Head of Female Elite Cricket Leah Poulton said the Breakers squad were chomping at the bit to open the season.
“We have had a very productive pre-season and I know the players are really excited to get on the field and open their WNCL campaign,” Poulton said.
“It’s great to have Georgia Adams back from the UK to captain us for a second season and she will be full of confidence having made her international debut for England against Ireland in the last fortnight.
“Georgia will be well supported by Lauren Cheatle and Tahlia Wilson who have led the side throughout our trials, while these matches provide the opportunity for Elsa Hunter and Sam Bates to make their Breakers debut.”
Both matches get underway at 9.30am and can be seen live on Kayo and cricket.com.au.
