Australian white ball star Adam Zampa has been named in a 12-player squad for the round five Sheffield Shield clash with Tasmania at the SCG, starting on Sunday (24/11).
Zampa, Sean Abbott and Josh Philippe come into the group having recently completed international duties for Australia in the ODI and T20I series’ against Pakistan.
Tanveer Sangha, Jack Nisbet and Lachlan Shaw drop out of the squad that defeated South Australia by an innings and one run last week in Adelaide, while Jack Edwards will again lead the side in the absence of regular skipper Moises Henriques, who will miss the next two Shield matches as he prepares for KFC BBL|14.
NSW currently sit fourth in the Sheffield Shield standings after four of ten rounds, with Tasmania in fifth.
This will be the team’s penultimate game before the mid-season BBL break.
A veteran of almost 200 white ball matches for Australia, Zampa returns to the Blues Shield squad for the first time since the 2022/23 season when he played just twice. The leg spinner made his first class debut for NSW way back in the 2012/13 season, playing three times.
Cricket NSW Chief of Cricket Performance, Greg Mail, said welcoming a player of Zampa’s calibre into the squad was a luxury for the Blues.
“Adam is a very experienced cricketer who is a great addition to our group,” Mail said.
“To have Zampa, Sean Abbott and Josh Philippe come back into the side after a fantastic win over South Australia in the last round is a bonus.
“Tanveer Sangha, Jack Nisbet and Lachy Shaw drop out of the squad for this round, but they are all valuable members of our wider squad and will continue to push for selection throughout the season.”
On Day 4, Wednesday November 27, a minute’s silence will be observed prior to play to honour the tenth anniversary of the passing of Phillip Hughes. NSW players will wear black arm bands throughout the match as a mark of respect.
The match is free to attend for spectators and can also be seen live on Kayo and cricket.com.au.
