NSW Women’s selection panel have picked a 13-player squad for a pair of Women’s National Cricket League matches against Western Australia at the WACA Ground in Perth on January 12 and 14.
English international Georgia Adams will captain the side that includes rookie Lauren Kua for the first time this season. If Kua was to land a debut, the Malaysian born batter, who plays for Manly Warringah in NSW Premier Cricket and was the leading run scorer in first grade last summer, will earn Breakers’ cap number 275.
Alyssa Healy, Ashleigh Gardner and Phoebe Litchfield are away with the Australian Women’s Team, while teens Caoimhe Bray and Kate Pelle are representing the Australian Under 19 team. Erin Burns was not available following the announcement of her pregnancy, however the veteran allrounder has taken up a coaching role with the squad.
The Breakers sit third on the WNCL ladder, having opened the season with four wins and two losses from their six pre-Christmas matches, while Western Australia are winless from their only four matches and sit in sixth place.
Both Perth matches get underway at 1pm AEDT and can be seen live on Kayo and cricket.com.au.
The Western Australia trip will be the first for interim-head coach for Grant Lambert, the former NSW Blues player and Breakers assistant coach taking over the reins from Gavan Twining in December. Twining has taken up an assistant’s role with the Australian Women’s Team.
