Greater Illawarra Crowned Bradman Cup Champs

Greater Illawarra have won the 2024/25 McDonald’s Bradman Cup, two points clear of their nearest rival on the final day of competition.

The best under 16 cricketers across country NSW descended on Albury in early January to battle it out for the Bradman Cup title, with all eight NSW Country Cricket Zones represented.

Heading into the final day of the four-day 50-over carnival, four teams remained in contention for the title, and it was Greater Illawarra who walked away victorious after winning five of their seven matches.

There were several standout performances across the week, with two centuries to Cooper Williams (North Coastal) and Lochlan Shoemark (Western) and a five-wicket haul to Liam Gammone (Greater Illawarra).

Riverina batter Joe Lavis finished the carnival as the leading run scorer with 232 runs at 33, with Liam Gammone the leading wicket-taker, picking up 15 wickets at an average of 11.

Gammone was awarded the Nathan Lyon Medal (Player of the Carnival) for his efforts with the ball.

Greater Illawarra will play the winner of the AW Green Shield (NSW Premier Cricket U16 comp) to determine the state champions.

Cricket NSW would like to thank Michael Erdeljac and the many volunteers at Cricket Albury Wodonga.
