McGrath named in King’s Birthday Honours List 2024

Cricket NSW congratulates Glenn McGrath AM after he was named in the King’s Birthday Honours List 2024 for his contribution to community health and cricket.

McGrath, a CNSW Life Member and Hall of Fame member, was appointed an Officer of the Order of Australia (AO) for his work with the McGrath Foundation which has raised funds for 223 breast care nurses who have supported 137,000 families in communities across Australia since 2005.

This includes the 2024 NRMA Insurance Pink Test Match through which more than $6 million was raised to fund 47 McGrath Breast Care Nurses for a year.

McGrath was cited for his “distinguished service to community health through breast cancer support, and to cricket as an international coach.”

He was previously appointed a Member of the Order of Australia in 2008 for his services to cricket as a player and service to the community through the establishment of the McGrath Foundation.

Born in Dubbo and raised in Narromine, McGrath played for the NSW Blues and then Australia. The fast bowler made his Test debut in 1993 after only eight first-class matches. He went on to play 124 Tests, taking 563 wickets, along with 250 One-Day Internationals, claiming a further 381 scalps.

McGrath was awarded Life Membership of CNSW in 2008 and added to the Hall of Fame in 2011.

Lee Germon, Cricket NSW CEO, said:

“Our heartiest congratulations to Glenn on this thoroughly deserved recognition for the positive impact he has created through the McGrath Foundation.

“His extraordinary on field achievements are well documented and he has arguably achieved more in his post cricket life.

“Hundreds and hundreds of families have been assisted by the McGrath Foundation and we as a cricket community are indebted to Glenn for the work he does.”
