McDonald’s Women’s NSW Premier Cricket summer ready for take off

The 2024-25 McDonald’s Women’s NSW Premier Cricket competition will begin in earnest this weekend with teams from across four grades – first, second, third and U18 Brewer Shield – ready to shed the cobwebs, forget off-season training and kick start their cricketing summer.

Third-grade fixtures commence on Saturday October 12 with 40-over-a-side matches, whilst first and second grade, as well as the U18 Brewer Shield, launch into action on Sunday October 13 with T20 shootouts.

The first-grade T20 tournament will again be supported by valued long term CNSW partner Kingsgrove Sports.

All four competitions will be contested by the same teams across each grade as last summer, with the exception of second grade where Greater Hunter Coast have joined the competition, buoyed by the success of the club’s U18 Brewer Shield.

In amazing scenes at Townson Oval in Newcastle in March, Greater Hunter Coast secured their first Brewer Shield title in just their second season in the state’s premier U18 competition.

In first grade, Sydney CC will look to defend both the Ruth Preddy Trophy (awarded to first grade winners) and the First Grade T20 Trophy, while UTS North Sydney CC were last year’s second grade victors, with Manly Warringah DCC champions in third grade and the coveted Club Championship.

NSW Premier Cricket Manager, Sean Mantle, said all clubs had indicated their excitement leading into the new summer.

“Like us, all of the clubs are really keen to get underway and looking forward to opening the season this weekend,” Mantle said.

“The standard and interest in McDonald’s Women’s Premier Cricket in NSW continues to grow and we believe this summer will be the best season in memory.

“A great example of that is the progress made by Greater Hunter Coast in the Brewer Shield and we welcome their team into the second grade competition. Their addition can only help strengthen the pathway for players from the Central Coast and Hunter regions and provide more women an opportunity to play and love cricket at a higher level.

“We’d like to recognise and thank our major partner McDonald’s, as well as Kingsgrove Sports for their sponsorship of the women’s T20 competition for a second season.

“As always, we wish all clubs, cricketers and volunteers the best for the season ahead.”
