NSW umpire Claire Polosak has umpired her first ICC Women’s T20 World Cup final as she took charge of South Africa v New Zealand on Sunday (Monday, October 21 1am AEDT).
Polosak is a highly experienced umpire who has progressed through the officiating ranks in NSW and Australia, with Sunday marking her 64th career women’s T20 international on-field.
Polosak was one of the on-field umpires during the 2023 edition of the Women’s T20 World Cup semi-finals in South Africa, as well as this year’s semi-final between West Indies and New Zealand in Sharjah.
Cricket NSW Chief Premier Cricket & Country Cricket Officer, Darren Goodger, who is also the Cricket NSW State Umpiring Manager & Coach, said Polosak was very deserving of the position.
“Congratulations to Claire on her appointment to umpire the Women’s T20 World Cup Final being played at Dubai International Cricket Stadium between New Zealand and South Africa.
“We wish her an enjoyable and successful final. This appointment is wonderful recognition of Claire’s preparation, teamwork and performance – all of which have been of the highest quality. She has excelled during this tournament.
“Claire is delighted to receive this opportunity, but in her usual humble and focused manner she said the most important thing is to get the job done tonight in the best interests of the players and the game.
“To have an Australian appointed to umpire a World Cup final is a rare privilege. Claire deserves the privilege. This is Claire’s seventh World Cup, her first final, and her 80th WT20 International (64 Field and 16 TV).
“We wish her the very best and a memorable experience.”
Nimali Perera stood with Polosak, while Anna Harris acted as TV umpire and Jacquline Williams served as the reserve umpire. GS Lakshmi was selected as match referee for the final in Dubai.
